Swimming Pool Electrical Safety
There is no better way to cool off during these dog days of summer than a dip in a swimming pool. When pool safety comes to mind, electrical issues might be the last thing you think of, but if you have underwater or outdoor lighting it is very important to make sure everything is in working order before you take a dip.
Start by checking your power supplies for wear and tear. If wires are loose or frayed, or anything looks off, do not swim until you have a licensed electrician inspect it.
Other things that are cause for alarm are lights that are either dull or flickering, buzzing noises or a burning odor known as “ozone smell”.
It is also important that any outlets around the pool are CFGI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets and have a hinged cover installed to protect them from the elements. If you notice any damage or don’t have CFGI outlets, put your safety first and consult a licensed electrician.
If you have or are looking to install a pool or hot tub, give Matthews Lighting and Electrical a call so we can make sure the only shock you experience when you dive in is refreshing and cool.
